Project Objectives
West Central MDI utilizes a team of experts to help dairy producers improve their business profitability. West Central MDI will:
- Help you organize a team of experts to evaluate your dairy enterprise
- Help you identify areas of improvement needed and suggest solutions for improving profits.
- Utilize Farm Business Management to analyze your current financial progress and monitor cash flow
- Provide follow up activity to monitor production and profitability arranged by a West Central MDI coordinator.
Examples of MDI activities may include:
- Milk quality concerns
- Feed preparation and nutrition
- Dairy facility remodeling or expansions
- Finpack analysis to measure financial progress
- Reproduction
- Herd health
- Manure management
- Farm transfer

Program Cost
West Central MDI is funded through the Minnesota State Legislature and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture manages the funds.
Dairy producers participating in the MDI program pay a $200 enrollment fee. Monetary benefits for participation include one semester of Farm Business Management tuition, dairy industry partners consulting fees, and team coordination efforts which in most cases represents $1000 plus per farm.
Cooperating farms will complete business assessment forms with the coordinator's assistance to identify major dairy improvement areas.
